Lonely is the Night
by Ayesha

Lonley is the night
Without you in it.
I lie beside you
Skin to skin
But the warmth is distant.
I hear the sounds of breath;
I feel its moisture.
A desert hangs between us.
I feel the pressure of your eyes,
Yet remain unseen.
I speak in measured words-
In careful tones.
I remain unheard.
I reach to touch you,
I feel your flesh
And cannot touch your soul.
Where have you gone, beloved?
Is it I who has melted away?
Are the bridges gone?
Or just in disrepair?
Though we touch and love
The sword lies drawn between us.
Lonely is the night,
Without you in it.
