My First Memories In Dereth by Arob-oros September 19th, 2002
...Chapter One Arrival...
Blackness nothing but blackness that was all i knew for what seemed like an eternity but was in reality only seconds after the initial impact i finaly managed to open my eyes and try and figure out where in Ispar i was if i was even still in Ispar. I looked around there was tree's they looked pretty much like any other tree i had seen and i could hear what seemed to be birds and insects a sound to my left made me turn my head suddenly something shot past me a rabbit. It was a rabbit i was sure of it (So there was wildlife here just like in my home) I Thought to myself i looked again at the trees the leaves where brown and even with a clear blue sky there was a chill in the air it felt like winter was close by.
I noticed a smallish building across from me on the opposite side of what appeared to be a man made road so there was civilisation here or at least i hoped these people where civilised. It was then that i noticed the large structure to my right it looked important on one side of it there was a what i would later understand as to be portals much like the same one that had brought me here a sign that had been placed outside it indicated that it was some kind of training hall it took me several seconds before i eventually realized that the sign i had just read was in fact written in my language.
I thought to myself well might aswell go in im going to have to find someone to explain to me what on ispar is going on and where in the world i was. As i was about to step foot in the portal i heard a voice behind me say "I wouldnt bother going in there if i was u the old timer in there is nothing but a waiste of time and space" I immediatly spung round and standing there in front of me was a man he was tall with a large build or so i could tell from what i could see of him his entire body was encased in a suit of armour. On his left hip hung a large broadsword there was a helmet tucked under his left arm. His face was rough looking he looked as if he hadnt shaved or bathed in several days his hair was untidy but it was his eyes that drew my attention these were eyes that had seen so much death and pain.
I stood there for what seem like ages before i had the courage to mutter "who, who are u" "Oh so u do understand me then" he said "My name is Keaneo Vassel of the wise and powerfull mage Viviana follower of the powerfull and noble Dragonsblood Monarchy" I of course had no idea what he ment or who he was talking about so i stood there like an idiot and just nodded my head. "If your trying to figure out where u are and how u may get back home i wouldnt bother it would be a waiste of your time and energy" after that comment i finaly managed to pluck up enuf courage to say to him "Well what would u reccomend i do" he smiled at me i wouldnt call it a warm or pleasent smile more like a what indeed kind of smile "I like u he said i sense u'll make one hell of a swordsman" me a swordsman i could'nt even chop down a tree with out almost taking my arm off in the process.
But as it was i knew that i was no longer in Ispar and that it would be very unlikely i would ever be able to go home. "I will take u as my vassel and teach u the way of the sword and of the world of Dereth which like it or not is now your home" He sorted me out some basic armour which i found to be very heavy and very cumbersome to move around in i asked him if this was nessesrary to which he replied "That armour is going to keep u alive alot longer than u would be without it". He then handed me a sword it looked old and not very sharp he called it an (Olthoi Sword)"Whats an olthoi i asked him" "Pray u never meet one he replied" he then lead me over to what apeared to be a blue spinning gem "Touch it he said". With some reluctance i placed my hand on it i felt a sudden weakness throughout my entire body "Rest he said your strengh will return shortly" "What happened to me what is this thing.?." "That is a Lifestone and u will come to rely on these devices to keep u alive for out there in the wilds of Dereth are many creatures who's only goal is to end your life as quickly and as painfully as they can".
And so it was after teaching me some basic fighting techniques that i became the newest follower of the Dragonsblood Monarchy. He explained to me that we was just on the outskirts of a town called Shoushi at what they called the South East Outpost "From here he said i will take u to Hebian-to where u can purchase some food and supplies and where your study of the art of the sword will begin. And so it was with a heavy weight on my heart i had one last look round this strange place and with the thought's of the home and family that i would probaly never see again i followed my Patron down the road leading to the town of Hebian-to and the start of a life i would never have dreamed of...
